How to Convert FLAC to MP3 on Android

Convert FLAC to MP3 directly on Android using your browser. Step-by-step guide for Android users who need MP3 from lossless files.

Android natively plays FLAC, so converting to MP3 is not needed for listening on Android. But there are plenty of reasons to do it — sharing with users on other platforms, uploading to services that require MP3, or reducing storage. Here is how to do it directly on Android without installing a conversion app.

Using AudioUtils on Android Chrome

Open Chrome on your Android device and navigate to audioutils.com. Tap the upload area and use the file picker to browse your storage. FLAC files may be in your Downloads folder, on an SD card, or in a cloud storage app (Google Drive, Dropbox). Select your FLAC file. Chrome and AudioUtils use WebAssembly to process the file locally — nothing uploads to a server, and the conversion works offline once the page is loaded.

Selecting MP3 Settings

Choose MP3 as the output format. Select your bitrate: 192 kbps — Recommended for music. Good quality, reasonable size. 320 kbps — Maximum quality MP3. About 2.5x the size of 128 kbps. 128 kbps — Acceptable for casual listening and voice content.

A FLAC file is already lossless — converting to 320 kbps MP3 won't exceed the quality of the source, but 320 kbps is the best fidelity MP3 can deliver.

Downloading the Converted File

After conversion, Chrome will prompt you to download or open the MP3 file. The file saves to your Downloads folder. Find it using the Files app or any file manager. From Downloads, share it via email, Bluetooth, WhatsApp, or upload to any cloud service.

When to Use FLAC vs. MP3 on Android

Keep your FLAC files for local playback on Android — the native media player handles FLAC well and the quality is excellent. Convert to MP3 only when you need to: share with someone who can't play FLAC, upload to a web platform that requires MP3, or move files to an older device or car stereo that doesn't support FLAC.
